There is no better summer grilling protein than a beef steak. No matter which cut you prefer — porterhouse, ribeye, tenderloin — we have a great recipe for a go-to marinade that is inexpensive, simple to prepare, and tastes great on steaks that have been seared over an open flame.
“The grill is just a source of heat. Just like a stove, it is very user-friendly” — Bobby Flay
RECIPE:
Remember that this is a marinade, and should be prepared well in-advance of actual cooking of the meats. Recommended marinade time is 2-12 hours.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar
Get The Ingredient We Used
- 1/3 Cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Get The Ingredient We Used
- 1/4 Cup of Red Wine Vinegar
Get The Ingredient We Used
- 1 Bunch of Green Onions (Chopped)
- 3 Cloves of Garlic (Crushed)
- 1 Teaspoon Chili Powder
- 1 Whole Bay Leaf
- Juice of 2 Limes
- 1 Tablespoon of Seasoned Salt
- 2 Tablespoons of Worcestershire
- 1 Teaspoon of Celery Seed
- 1/4 Cup of V8 Vegetable Juice
(Secret Ingredient)
PREPARATION:
The best part about this marinade recipe is that it is incredibly simple. All you have to do is mix all the ingredients together in a large Gallon-sized freezer bag, add your raw steaks into the bag and let the meat soak up all of that good flavor.
Hint: Use a paper towel to pat the steaks dry of all of the marinade before placing them on the grill. This will ensure that you get a nice crust on the outside of the steak. Don’t worry, you won’t lose any flavor, the flavor will actually juice back out of the steak while it is on the grill.

We love Ginger — This is our base-marinade… Sometimes mushrooms and chiles end up in the soak.

Perfect timing for a great steak marinade recipe as we’ll be opening up the BBQ this week. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your site looks awesome!
Thank you, so does your blog! There is never a bad time for a great steak 🙂
Fabulous marinade! Followed advice of one reviewer and added some freshly grated ginger. Didn’t have seasoned salt and so mixed a generous dash of Adobo seasoning with sea salt. By far the best marinade we’ve ever had…I eat red meat sparingly but could not resist having seconds. A very good steak should never require any “steak sauce” and this recipe does not disappoint. Absolutely perfect!
That is awesome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it so much! 🙂
Thanks for following my blog and for introducing your blog to me. Love it! I enjoy viewing all these food pics. It will definitely give me ideas for my future cooking endeavors 🙂
Thank you as well! Enjoy those cooking endeavors! 🙂
Wow I am ready to BBQ like now! If only it wasn’t negative degrees outside!
Fabulous marinade! We’ve let steaks marinade for anywhere from 2 to 24 hours with this recipe and the flavors are wonderful every time, although the longer you wait to grill, roast or broil the more succulent the meat. Very, very good!
Thanks, glad you like our go-to marinade.
This is a fabulous recipe as is or with the addition of ginger. Of course, the longer you marinade the meat the better but we’ve only soaked for as little as an hour and still had hella good eat’n from it. Every time we make this no one ever uses steak sauce with their portion, it is truly that good! That is now our “rule of thumb” with regard to judging a great steak: Does it need steak sauce? No? Well then it’s perfect! And yes, the V-8 juice is the perfect secret ingredient.
Thanks… yes, the V-8 really rounds out the flavors.
